Mukul Bikash School
A Unit Run By Mukul Bikash Educational Trust

Mukul Bikash began its journey in 1974 as a modest initiative with just 14 students. It was founded by the revered teacher, Shri Nirmal Kumar Dutta, who recognized the lack of educational institutions in the locality at the time and envisioned bridging that gap.
Initially, classes were held in the neighborhood library with only two sections—Nursery and Infant—and the school was known as Shishu Mahal. Over the years, as student enrollment steadily increased, the institution gradually evolved. In 1980, it adopted a new identity and came to be known as Mukul Bikash.
The journey has not been without challenges, but unwavering dedication and a strong sense of purpose have enabled Mukul Bikash to overcome each one. Today, Mukul Bikash stands tall as a symbol of growth and learning. Under the able leadership of Shri Dutta’s accomplished daughter, the school continues to expand—adding new classes, infrastructure, and opportunities for young minds to thrive.
Nirmal Kumar Dutta founded Mukul Bikash School in his small native village of Makarhdah, Howrah district. At that time, no such educational institution existed in the area which emphasized all-round development of children and Mr. Dutta dreamed of creating a school dedicated to the holistic development of local children—especially first‑generation learners.
He envisioned a place where students would not only study academics but also play, dance, recite poetry, and engage in physical exercise. Above all, he wanted to instill strong moral values and help each child grow into a compassionate, well‑rounded individual.

“Mukul Bikash is my dream — my second child — and I aspire to nurture it with care, grace, and true fidelity to its name. Here, our students will not only pursue academic excellence but will also cultivate physical strength and cultural refinement. Our mission is to guide them toward becoming accomplished and compassionate individuals.
Rather than imposing strict discipline, we believe in gently correcting their mistakes with patience and understanding, drawing them close with love and encouragement. They are taught to care for their younger peers as devoted elder siblings and to treat their seniors with respect and affection. A deep reverence for teachers is instilled in them, as reflected in their heartfelt celebration of Teachers’ Day.
I pray that Mukul Bikash may always hold its flag high with pride and continue to flourish as a beacon of hope and growth.”

Our Vision
We envision a vibrant learning environment centered around activity-based education, where children learn through hands-on experiences and active engagement. Surrounded by nature, our school offers a nurturing space that inspires curiosity, fosters creativity, and cultivates a strong bond with the natural world. Our commitment is to the holistic development of every child—intellectually, emotionally, physically, and morally—empowering them to become responsible, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals.

Co-Curricular Excellence: Shaping Confident, Creative, and Capable Learners
Activity-based learning enables children to master concepts through direct, hands-on experience. Whether they explore the life cycle of a butterfly, investigate ozone‑layer depletion, construct a simple pinhole camera, or map constellations in the night sky, active engagement fosters a far deeper understanding than lectures alone. Even abstract subjects like English grammar come alive when students “act out” sentence structures or invent word‑play games. By turning passive reception into dynamic participation, children form meaningful connections and retain what they’ve learned long after the activity ends.

Dance Class
Our dance workshop provides a joyful platform for students to express themselves through movement and rhythm. It nurtures creativity, improves coordination, and builds confidence while celebrating the art of dance in a fun and energetic environment.

Bratachari Workshop
We’re especially proud to preserve Bengal’s cultural heritage by reviving Bratachari, an almost forgotten traditional art form, through regular participation and performances.

Theatre Workshop
Theatre workshops are conducted by renowned theatre professionals Manidipa, Biswajit Das, and Soumyajit Datta. Workshops that go beyond performance — they nurture creativity, sharpen communication skills, and build unshakable confidence. Through gentle stretches and breathing techniques, they learn to focus and relax.
These practices nurture emotional well-being and a peaceful, centered mind.

Clay modelling classes are conducted on Saturdays. They enhance creativity, improve fine motor skills, and keep learners engaged through hands-on activities.

Through these sessions, teachers are encouraged to adopt innovative and student-centered teaching methodologies that align with contemporary educational trends. Additionally, teachers are motivated to actively participate in various professional development programs, seminars, and training sessions to continually upgrade their skills and stay updated with the latest developments in education.

Chemistry Workshop
Fondly known as “Hati Bhai,” Mr. Suman Hati conducted an engaging chemistry workshop for the children, introducing them to a range of fascinating experiments and scientific phenomena. Through interactive demonstrations, he effectively dispelled many common misconceptions and superstitions among the villagers, fostering a spirit of scientific curiosity and understanding.

karate Class
Our school offers karate classes under the expert guidance of Shihan Sujit Kumar Das, a highly skilled and experienced instructor. These sessions not only equip students with self-defense techniques but also promote physical fitness, discipline, and mental focus. Through regular training, students build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of respect and self-control.

Environmental Awareness Programs
The Environmental Awareness Program includes the annual celebration of Van Mahotsav in July. On this day, students from all classes are grouped to plant saplings in the school garden. Each class appoints one student as a Green Volunteer, responsible for nurturing the sapling planted by their group. Green volunteer badges are distributed to recognize their role and dedication.
A grand cultural program, organized and led by teachers, adds to the day’s significance. With performances such as songs, dances, dramas, and recitations, the celebration becomes a meaningful and enjoyable experience for all.

In addition to caring for plants, children also take care of birds both within the school premises and in their local surroundings. This thoughtful initiative fosters empathy and instills a lifelong sense of responsibility toward nature and all living beings.

Science Fair
Children participate in science fair, various competitions and exhibitions to showcase their creativity and undederstanding. These events encourage young minds to explore, experiment, and present innovative ideas. From working models to creative experiments, students demonstrate their talents with enthusiasm and confidence.

The natural surroundings are one of our school’s greatest strengths. We strive to provide education to children in the lap of nature. Our goal is to create an environment where learning happens naturally and joyfully.
We believe that children learn best through activities, as this method has a greater impact on young minds. It leaves a lasting impression and helps them better understand and connect with the subject matter.
The core motto of our school is to create a happy and positive classroom environment where children enjoy learning. Along with academics, we emphasize teaching core moral values—such as respecting their teachers and being compassionate towards their peers.
